Supporting Windows 2012 computers on Symantec Management Platform 7.1 is not currently an option.

However it is very important for some customers to get started with Windows 2012 machines as managed machines or site server before full support is available from Symantec.

The package attached on this Download intends to allow Symantec Connect Community members to get started on this challenge, possibly paving the way to full support from Symantec (or at least providing a list of known issues that could be found from field testing).

What is in the package?

The package contains a set of filters and a SQL function that are needed to deploy and run the Agent and sub-agents on Windows 2012 computers. Here is the full file list with their use:

FilenameDescription
ImportExport2.exeA tool to import export items from the Symantec CMDB available on Symantec Connect
windows-2012-support.batA batch file to automatically import all the package entries into a Symantec_CMDB
dbo.fnIsSupportedClientOS.sqlA new version of the SMP SQL function 'fnIsSupportedClientOS'. This function returns true for Windows 2012 Operating System.

Updated version of filter 'Potential Windows Package Servers'
4320a481-61c8-483e-9d38-bb7ee78fb2d7.xmlUpdated version of filter 'Windows 2000/2003/2008' to 'Windows 2000/2003/2008/2012'

8afb27a2-5dc7-43ca-a88c-8391252f5b7b.xmlUpdated version of filter 'Windows 2000/XP/2003/Vista/2008/7 Computers' to 'Windows 2000/XP/2003/Vista/2008/7/2012 Computers'
8fde2b96-bd36-48fa-83ca-02904192417b.xmlUpdated version of filter 'Windows Servers (excluding 'Package Servers')'
b677c36f-8cf8-4c57-aa6f-f11948e128c7.xmlUpdated version of filter 'Windows Servers'
dd4bc7ad-c22a-43fd-b948-3fcd7e5c78e0.xmlNew filter 'Windows 2012'

How to use it?

Download the package attached and unzip it on your Symantec Management Platform. From an administrator prompt run 'windows-2012-support.bat' to import the filters into the database. Copy the 'dbo.fnIsSupportedClientOS.sql' to your SQL Server and run the update against the Symantec_CMDB.

With this done you can now check the created / updated filters on the console, as this will populate the filters. If you do not have Windows 2012 Servers with the Symantec Management Agent in test yet you can start pushing the agent and install the Task or Package Server agents.

Note on Windows 2012 configuration for Site Services

If you want to deliver http codebases (for Package Services) or use Task Services you need to make sure that the 2012 systems are configured with the "IIS 6 Compatibility mode" role selected.

How is the package supported?

This is a Community package, written by the author on its spare time. The aim is to allow users who are willing to get started on their own. If you need any help please send me a Direct Message, or better post a comment here so everyone else may benefit from your findings.
